Brunswick, Maine – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon, competing in the 2023 Lynn Ruddy Invitational, hosted by Bowdoin College at the William Farley Field House.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing second overall in the high jump with a PR and DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.56 meters as well as finishing fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best and DIII NE qualifying time of 9.48 seconds, while senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) took top honors in the 600 meter with stellar time of 1:46.55 to set a new PR in the event.

Freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) notched a fifth place time of 5:32.54 in the mile (PR), while in the 800 meter, junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) (2:44.73) and newcomer Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) (2:50.09) registered new personal best times for the Green and Gold after placing 7th and 8th,

In the 600 meter, seniors Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) (3rd) (PR), Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) (5th) and Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (6th) (PR) turned in times of 1:48.27, 2:00.21 and 2:19.62, while in the 200 meter, freshman Alanis Velez (Lowell, Mass.),(13th) McAndrew, (15th) freshman Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) )16th) and fellow freshman Cassandra Israelson (17th) posted PR times of 31.51, 32.66, 33.69 and 34.85 seconds respectively.

In the field, junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) and Israelson collected PR's of 9.87M and 7.50M in the weight throw after placing 12th and 18th, while in the shotput, sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) notched a personal best toss of 10.89 meters. In addition, Kephart (7.98M) and Israelson (7.71M) placed 16th  and 18th in the shotput, while in the long jump, Velez (4.06M) and Camara (3.78M) finished eighth and tenth respectively. Russo added a seventh place, PR mark of 8.90 meters in the triple jump, while Hansen (8th) (400M) and Velez (7th) (PR) (60M hurdles) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon with times of 1:16.06 11.19.
