Falcons Open 2023-24 Campaign At Mary Grinaker Invitational

Camara leads the way for Green and Gold with pair of DIII NE qualifiers

Northampton, MA. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team opened their 2023-24 campaign today as they competed at the 2023 Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College.

How It Happened

Senior Makany Camara (Lowell, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.57 meter, while adding a DIII NE qualifying time of 9.51 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles with a second place effort.

Sophomore Skye Goba (Norton, MA) notched a second place time of 11:22.43 in the 3000 meter in addition to finishing third overall in mile with a time of 5:48.53, while in the 60 meter, sophomore Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, CT) placed 22nd overall with a time of 9.26 seconds.

In the 200 meter, Camara (12th) and Boulware McKnight (21st) turned in times of 29.69 and 31.18 seconds, while sophomore Aria DiCato (Fitchburg, MA) added a 12th place time of 1:19.45 in the 400 meter.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Boulware McKnight, DiCato, freshman Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) and sophomore Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA) posted a sixth place time of 2:16.77, while sophomore Brynn Dobbs (Brewster, MA) finished sixth in the 800 meter with a time of 3:30.67.

In the field, freshman Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) (9.69M), senior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, MA) (7.74m) and sophomore Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, MA) (7.07M) finished third, tenth and 16th in the shot put, while in the weight throw, Kephart (3rd), Crout (4th) and Israelson (13th) added throws of 10.88M, 10.68M and 7.92M.

In the long jump, Boulware McKnight (11th) and Velez (13th) posted marks of 3.91 meters and 3.73 meters, while senior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, MA) placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 8.36 meters.
