Falcons Soars At Jim Sheehan Invite

Atkinson sets new school record of 38.97m with second place effort in the javelin

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team hosted the 2016 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational this afternoon at Elliot Field, placing second with a total of 114 points.

Freshman Molly Atkinson led the way, placing second overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying mark of 38.97 meter to set a new school record in the process, while adding a seventh place effort in the discus with toss of 28.08m to qualify for MASCAC's

Sophomore Annie Woolley was also solid of the Falcons, turning in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.29 seconds with a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, while freshman Olivia Milsted earned top honors in the long jump; with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.94m.

Junior Morgan Steele placed second overall in the hammer throw with a post-season qualifying toss of 38.34m as well as registering a MASCAC qualifying throw of 10.30 meter with a third place effort in the shotput, Woolley notched a post-season qualifying time of 13.48 seconds with a fourth place finish in the 100m.

On the track, sophomore Casey Taylor (5:26.79) and senior Jessica Mangan (5:39.21) turned in MASCAC qualifying times in the 1500, while sophomore Holly Sessler placed second in the 400m hurdles with a post-season qualifying time of 1:10.05.

In the field, junior Sadie Zbikowski put forth a strong showing in the pole vault with MASCAC qualifying height of 2.90m to place second overall, while Milsted added a post-season qualifying mark of 2.60m with a fourth place effort in the pole vault.

In the triple jump, junior Melody Francis placed second overall with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 9.53m, while Sessler (1.45m) and Atkinson (4.23m) rounded out the top Falcons efforts with MASCAC qualifying marks in the high jump and long jump respectively

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track & field team return to action next Saturday as it competes in the 2016 Smith College Invite, starting at 11 a.m.
