Fitchburg State Takes On Elmer Swanson Invite

Woolley and Steele qualify for ECAC's to pace Falcons

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Fitchburg State women's track and field team was in action this afternoon, competing in the 2016 Elmer Swanson Invitational Meet, hosted by Wesleyan University.

Junior Holly Sessler registered a new personal best and DIII New England qualifying time of 68.59 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles with a third place effort as well as turning in a fifth place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.42 meters in the high jump.

Junior Morgan Steele was also solid for the Falcons, taking top honors in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying mark of 44.68m to go along with a second place effort in the shot put with MASCAC qualifying toss of 11.07 meters.

Sophomore Annie Woolley placed first overall in the 100m hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 14.97 seconds, while adding a MASCAC qualifying time of 12.92 seconds with second place finish in the 100 meter.

On the track, sophomore Shawna Ryan set a new PR in the 400 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 65.47 seconds to finish sixth overall, while classmate Amanda Remie qualified for MASCAC's in the 100m with time of 13.99 seconds.

In the field, junior Melody Francis placed first overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 4.80m, while adding a post-season qualifying mark of 10.03m with a second place finish in the triple jump. Newcomer Olivia Milstead also qualified for MASCAC's in the long jump with a second place jump of 4.73m.

In the pole vault, junior Sadie Zbikowski (2.90m), sophomore Michaella Vecchiarelli (2.75m) and Milstead (2.60m) qualified for MASCAC's, placing second and fourth respectively, while sophomore Casey Taylor (11:04.28) and freshman Soraya Auguste (27.83m) qualified for MASCAC's in the 3000m and discus respectively to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's track & field team returns to action next Saturday as it competes in the 2016 MASCAC/Alliance Championship Meet, hosted by UMass Dartmouth for an 11 am start.
