Fitchburg State Shines At MASCAC/Alliance Championship Meet

Woolley claims MASCAC crown in 100m hurdles with Open NE qualifying time of 14.98 seconds

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's track and field team was in action this afternoon, competing in the 2016 MASCAC/Alliance Championship Meet, hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Sophomore Annie Woolley paced the Falcons, claiming the MASCAC title in the 100m hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 14.98 seconds as well as placing sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.12 seconds, while junior Morgan Steele qualified for ECAC's in the hammer throw with a second place toss of 44.71m.

Junior Sadie Zbikowski placed second overall in the pole vault with an DIII NE qualifying mark of 3.05 meters, while newcomer Molly Atkinson notched a DIII New England qualifying throw of 34.78m with a third place finish in the javelin.

On the track, senior Jessica Mangan placed third in the 10,000 meter with time of 43:31.54, while sophomore Shawna Ryan finished fifth in the 800m, turning in a time of 2:28.15. In the 1500m, sophomore Nicole Gaffney posted a sixth place time of 5:08.72..

Sophomore Casey Taylor notched a fifth place finish in the 5000 meter with a time of 20:11.49, while in the long jump, junior Melody Francis (4.70m) and Atkinson (3.94m) placed seventh and 13th respectively.

In the field, Francis posted a ninth place mark of 10.17m in the triple jump, while in the discus, Atkinson (8th) and freshman Soraya Auguste (10th) registered distances of 28.71m and 26.78m. Junior Emilee Felton placed eighth in the javelin with toss of 30.71 meters, while in the pole vault, sophomore Michaella Vecchiarelli (2.75m) and freshman Olivia Milsted (2.60m) finished third and fifth respectively to round out the top Falcon performances on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's track & field team returns to action next weekend as select member complete in the 2016 DIII New England Championship Meet, hosted by Springfield College, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
