Fitchburg State Opens 2017 Outdoor Season At BSU Bears Invite

Steele finishes third overall in the weight throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 44.60 meters

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team opened its 2017 campaign this afternoon, competing in the 2017 Bridgewater State University Bears Outdoor Invite at Swenson Field.

Senior Morgan Steele paced the Green and Gold, placing third overall in the weight throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 44.60 meters, while junior Emilee Felton posted a DIII New England qualifying mark of 33.12 meters in javelin with an 11th place finish.

The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Melody Francis, juniors Annie Woolley and Amanda Remie as well as freshman Nisa Holley posted a DIII NE qualifying time of 53.11 seconds with a third place effort, while newcomer Micalea Goldenberg finished sixth overall in the 400 meter hurdles with solid time of 1:22.31.

In the 100 meter dash, Woolley notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 13.24 seconds with a seventh place finish, while Holley (13.58) and Remie (13.60) added strong season opening performances, placing 20th and 21st overall.

In the field, senior Olivia Milsted registered a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.48 meters in the long jump to place fifth overall, while Francis rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day with a post-season qualifying jump of 4.30 meters in the long jump (12th).

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team returns to action next Saturday as it hosts the Jim Sheehan Memorial Alumni Invitational at Elliot Field, starting at 10 a.m.
