Fitchburg State Soars At Corsair Classic

Steele places third overall in hammer throw with DIII NE qualifying toss of 42.39 meters

DARTMOUTH, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing ninth with a total of 25 points at the 2017 Corsair Classic Track & Field Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Senior Morgan Steele continued her stellar start to the 2017 outdoor season, placing third overall in the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 42.39 meters, while adding a seventh place finish in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 10.73 meters.

The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Melody Francis, juniors Annie Woolley and Amanda Remie as well as freshman Nisa Holley registered a season best time of 52.65 to qualify for DIII NE's with a third place effort, while senior Olivia Milsted turned in a post-season qualifying mark 4.47 meters in the long jump with a fourth place finish.

In the 100 meter dash, Holley (13.14), Remie (13.31) and Woolley (13.38) placed sixth, tenth and 13th respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while freshman Micalea Goldenberg placed sixth overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a post-season qualifying time of 1:16.08.

In the field, Francis turned in a MASCAC qualifying mark of 9.32 meters with a 16th place finish in the triple jump, while in the javelin, newcomer Kelly Mccusker-Brown (21st) and senior Jacqueline Bader (26th) registered solid throws of 23.35m and 17.00m respectively in their debuts.

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team returns to action on Friday as travels to Regis College for a twilight meet, starting at 4 p.m.
