Fitchburg State Excels At Regis Spring Classic

Felton and Vecchiarelli place first overall in the javelin and pole vault

WESTON, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, completing in the 2017 Regis Spring Classic at Regis Stadium.

Senior Morgan Steele paved the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 45.98 meters, while also finishing fourth in the shot put (10.66m) and ninth in the discus (22.70m).

Senior Emilee Felton took top honors in the javelin with MASCAC qualifying throw of 32.84 meters, while junior Michaella Vecchiarelli placed first overall in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying vault of 2.75 meters.

Senior Melody Francis finished third in the long jump (4.52m) and sixth in the triple jump (9.39m) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events, while junior Amanda Remie (13.56) and freshman Nisa Holley (13.71) placed fifth and seventh respectively in the 100 meter.

In the 200 meter, Remie (8th) and Holley (9th) turned in times of 28.14 seconds and 28.27 seconds respectively, while in the 800 meter, sophomore Ashley Hyde (2:38.58) and classmate Amy Kelly (2:4.37) placed third and fifth in the event. Junior Casey Taylor closed out the top performances for the Green and Gold on the day, finishing fourth overall in the 1500 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:20.80.

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as it hosts the 2017 Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field on Saturday, April 15th, starting at 10 a.m.
