Fitchburg State Hosts Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite

Steele qualifies for DIII NE's in shot put and hammer throw to pace Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing third overall with a total of 69 points as it hosted the 2017 Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field.

Junior Annie Woolley paced the Falcons, taking top honors in the 100 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.05 seconds, while senior Morgan Steele qualified for DIII NE's in the shot put (11.00m) and the hammer throw (46.29m)  placing sixth and first overall respectively.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Woolley, senior Melody Francis, junior Amanda Remie and freshman Nisa Holley turned in a season best time of 50.72 seconds to finish second overall, while junior Casey Taylor posted a sixth place effort in the 1500 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:21.43.

In the 800 meter, junior Shawna Ryan (2:31.62) and sophomore Ashley Hyde (2:33.44) placed ninth and 11th respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while Woolley added a first place finish in the 200 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 26.41 seconds.

Senior Sadie Zbikowski placed fourth overall in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 2.65 meters, while Holley turned in a post-season qualifying time of 13.45 seconds in the 100 meter with a time of 13.45 seconds.

In the field, senior Emilee Felton (33.66m) and Steele (27.97m) qualified for MASCAC's in the javelin, placing fourth and 11th respectively, while in the long jump, Francis and senior Olivia Milsted rounded out the top efforts on the afternoon for the Falcons, placing fourth and eighth overall with MASCAC qualifying marks of 4.71 meters and 4.52 meters respectively.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as they compete in the 2017 Elmer Swanson Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
