Fitchburg State Finishes Fourth At MASCAC Championships

Steele claims MASCAC Championship in shot put and hammer throw

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track & field team placed fourth overall with a total of 65 points at the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Outdoor Championships, hosted by Westfield State University this afternoon.

Junior Annie Woolley paced the Falcons this afternoon, claiming the MASCAC/Alliance championship in the 100 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 14.32 seconds to set a new MASCAC/Alliance Championship record in the process.

Senior Morgan Steele was also strong for the Green and Gold, capturing the MASCAC crown in the hammer throw with an Open NE qualifying toss of 47.01 meters as well as taking top honors in the shot put with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 11.62 meters to claim the MASCAC championship in the shot put as well.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Woolley, junior Amanda Remie, senior Melody Francis and newcomer Nisa Holley turned in a solid time of 50.65 seconds to set a new PR in the process with a fourth place finish, while junior Shawna Ryan placed ninth overall in the 800 meter with time of 2:32.22.

In the pole vault, senior Sadie Zbikowski (2.90) and junior Michaella Vecchiarelli (2.90) tied for second in the event, while Francis placed sixth in the long jump (4.52m) and ninth in the triple jump (9.64m).

Junior Casey Taylor finished sixth in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:17.03, while freshman Micalea Goldenberg added a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, turning in a time of 1:13.95. Senior Emilee Felton rounded out the top performances for the Green and Gold on the day, finishing sixth overall in the javelin with a toss of 33.49 meters.

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members complete in the 2017 Division III New England Championships, hosted by Williams College, starting on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
