Fitchburg State Hosts Annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite

Woolley takes top honors in the 100m hurdles with DIII NE qualifying time of 15.17 seconds 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, hosting its annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field.

Senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.17 seconds, while adding a second place effort in the 200 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 26.55 seconds.

In the 100 meter, senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.), classmate Angelica Beato (Lowell, Mass.) and freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) posted post-season qualifying times of 13.78, 14.22 and 14.54 seconds after finishing second, fourth and seventh, while in the 200m, Remie (28.27) and freshman Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) (28.34) placed fifth and sixth respectively to qualify for MASCAC's.

Berardi collected her second MASCAC qualifying time in the 400 meter after placing fifth overall with a time of 1:05.77, while senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) and classmate Casey Taylor (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed second and third in the 800 meter with post-season qualifying times of 2:32.45 and 2:36.71.

In the 1500, Taylor finished second overall with a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:11.79, while junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) took top honors in the 5000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 19:39.83.

Sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 1:18.33 in the 400 meter hurdles, while Gonzalez (17.42) and Goldenberg (19.96) both qualified for MASCAC's in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing third and fifth respectively.

In the field, senior Sadie Zbikowski (Westminster, Mass.) placed second in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 2.75 meters, while in the triple jump, junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) (2nd) and Berardi (3rd) posted post-season qualifying marks of 8.97m and 8.82m.

Freshman Allissa Carroll (Boxford, Mass.) collected a trio of MASCAC qualifying marks in the shotput (5.95m), discus (15.68m) and the hammer (21.01), placing in the top seven in each event, while sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) finished first in the javelin (26.58m) and fifth in the hammer (24.01m) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events.

Newcomer Madison Podedworny (Webster, Mass.) registered a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the javelin (20.07m) and the shotput (5.10m), while classmate Heisha Santos-Flores (Webster, Mass.) also notched a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the shotput (5.40m) and discus (16.40m) to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team returns to action next Saturday as it competes in the 2018 MASCAC/Alliance Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State University, starting at 10:00 AM.
