Falcons Open 2023 Season At BSU Bears Invite

Bailey takes pair of top honors for Green and Gold

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team opened its 2023 campaign this afternoon, competing in the 2023 BSU Bears Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater State at Swenson Field.

How It Happened

Sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) paced the Falcons, placing first overall in the shotput (10.28M) and discus (31.28M) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events, while in the 1500 meter, senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) (5:03.91) and newcomer Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) (5:13.98) finished first and fifth respectively to qualify for the post-season.

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) finished fourth in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.55 meters as well as placing seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a post-season qualifying time o 17.85 seconds.

Senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) took top honors in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a MASCAC qualifying time of 13:58.23, while senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) followed in second place with a time of 17:22,18.

In the 800 meter, Murphy (4th), Goba (7th) and junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y) (15th) turned in times of 2:32.99, 2:37.04 and 2:45.89, while the 4x100 meter relay team of senior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.), freshman Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, Conn.), Camara and senior Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished seventh overall with a time of 56.86 seconds.

In the 200 meter, Camara (29.77), junior Elizabeth Read (Chelmsford, Mass.) (31.26) and newcomer Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) (33.72) placed 23rd, 34th and 41 respectively, while McKnight (14.96) and Aubuchon (16.35) finished 25th and 31st in the 100 meter.

In the field, newcomer Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) finished 11th in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 8.88 meters, while Reed placed tenth in the javelin with a post-season qualifying toss of 26.00 meters.

Junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the shotput (8.68M (10th) and the hammer throw ((27.55) (15th), while also finishing 17th in the discus with a toss of 22.25 meters.

Freshman Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, Mass.) placed 21st in the shut put with a mark of 8.01 meters, while Hansen finished 26th in the 400 meter with a time of 1:15.16 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.
