Bailey notches PR and DIII NE qualifying toss of 35.37m in the discus

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team placed 12th with a total of 19 points at the 2023 Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at the Dussault Track this afternoon.

How It Happened

Sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way for the Falcons, finishing second overall in the discus with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 35,37 meters to set a new personal best, while adding a fourth place effort of 10.25 meters in the shot put to qualify for MASCAC"S.

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a post-season qualifying time of 16.41 seconds, while in the 1500 meter, senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:12.06.

Senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) posted a solid post-season qualifying time of 13:49.64 in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a seventh place finish, while in the 100 meter, freshman Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, Conn.) (24th), junior Elizabeth Read (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.) (29th) posted times of 15.16, 15.28 and 16.04 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay team of McKnight, Camara, Read and Aubuchon registered a solid tenth place time of 57.30 seconds, while in the 800 meter, junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) (2:57.46) and freshman Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) (3:04.30) finished 41st and 44th respectively.

In the 200 meter, newcomer Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, Mass.) (41st) and McKnight (50th) posted times of 30.73 seconds and 31.71 second, while in the 400 meter hurdles, senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (1:29,28), newcomer Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) (1:29.37) and junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (1:33.28) placed 12th, 13th and 14th.

In the field, Read finished 20th overall in the javelin with a toss of 19.74 meters, while in the shot put, Israelson (7.65M), sophomore Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (7.63M) and junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (7.43M) finished 35th, 37th and 38th.

Kephart rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon, finishing 17th overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 22.72 meters.
