Falcons Place Second At Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite

Camara and Murphy collect top honor of Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team placed second with a total of 81 points at the 2023 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.60 meters, while adding a first place, DIII NE qualifying time of 15.85 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.

In the 1500 meter, senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) finished first overall (5:06.32) and newcomer Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) placed fourth (5:21.84) to qualify for MASCAC's, while in the 3000 meter steeple chase, senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) finished third overall with a post-season qualifying time of 13:23.03, while senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) added a seventh place time of 16:17.42.

Senior Sophie Geremia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 49:28.80 with a sixth place finish in the 10000 meter, while junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished ninth with a mark of 8.63 meters.

Donelan notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 19.87 seconds with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, while senior Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 21:04.62 in the 5000 meter after placing third overall.

In the 800 meter, Murphy (2nd), McAndrew (13th) and junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) (15th) posted times of 2:30.08, 2:44.34 and 2:48.64, while in the 100 meter junior Elizabeth Read (Chelmsford, Mass.) (14.87) and newcomer Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, Conn.) (15.11) placed 23rd and 24th.

In the 200 meter, Read (20th) and McKnight (21st) turned in times of 30.67 and 30.91 seconds, while in the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) (1:25.50), Brouillet (1:28.43) and Donelan (1:36.95) placed sixth, seventh and eighth.

In the field, Read finished 20th overall in the javelin with a toss of 19.74 meters, while in the discus, sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) posted a third place, MASCAC qualifying toss of 34.04 meters.

In the shotput, Bailey (10.48M), junior Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (8.46M) and junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (7.80M) placed seventh, 15th and 24th, while in the hammer throw, Kephart (12th) and newcomer Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, Mass.) (20th) post throws of 28.60 meters and 19.39 meters
