Fitchburg State Defeated By Becker

Osborne and Riccardi combine for 19.5 points in non-conference setback  

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team returned to action this evening, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Hawks of Becker College in non-conference action at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

Becker College opened the match with a 25-11 victory in the first set, before the Hawks rallied to take game two by a score of 25-22. The visitors secured its first win of the 2017 season with a 25-14 set-three victory to close out the match.

Junior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) and freshman Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) led the way for the Green and Gold, combining for 19.5 points, six digs and one assist, while newcomer Jessica Peirce (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter) collected a team-leading eight digs. Senior Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) put forth a solid effort for the Falcons as well, finishing with one service ace, three assists and six digs.

For Becker, senior Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine/Gorham netted a game-best ten points, 20 assists, four digs and six service aces, while junior Courtney Cotnoir (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) chipped in with 12 digs and three assists. Sophomore Morgan Gould (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) added six points, eight digs and four assists for the hosts in the win.

Third meeting between two schools with Falcons 2-1 when taking on the Hawks

First time two squads have meet on the volleyball court since September 14, 2002 in which the Falcons defeated Becker 3-0.

This evening's contest marked the first home match for Fitchburg State since October 30, 2002. Fitchburg State defeated Emerson College, 3-1.
