McGroarty registers eight assists for Falcons in non-conference setback 

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Gators of Pine Manor College in non-conference action this evening at the Brunelli Court.

How It Happened

Senior setter Kathryn McGroarty (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, posting a team-best eight assists, one kill, one service ace and two digs, while classmate Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) added eight digs and one service ace. Junior Kathryn Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, finishing with four kills, one solo block and a pair of blocking assists.

For Pine Manor, senior setter Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) collected a game-best 15 assists, three kills, three digs and one service ace, while sophomore Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.) registered eight digs, one kill, one assist and a pair of service aces. Sophomore Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan) aided the Gators offense, chipping in with a match-leading seven kills, one service ace and two solo blocks.

5th meeting between the two schools on the volleyball court with the Falcons 1-4-0 when taking on the Gators.

Pine Manor defeated Fitchburg State 3-0 on September 9, 2017 as the Falcons hosted Newbury and Pine Manor in a tri-match at the Parkinson Gymnasium earlier this season.
