Volleyball Downed by Suffolk

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State volleyball fell in this evening's contest against non-conference opponent Suffolk University.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/12/23

- Score: Suffolk 3, Fitchburg 0: Sets (14-25, 19-25, 24-26)

- Records: Suffolk (3-5), Fitchburg (4-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Rams offense came out of the gate swinging by out hitting the Falcons 14-5 in the first set and 12-7 in the second. Fitchburg would settle in during the third set tying Suffolk 11-11 in kills, but it would not be enough to stave off the 3-0 finish.

- Leading the way for the Rams offense was Grace Cervenka, who finished with a team high eight kills on just one error, for a kill percentage of .700. Jayla Martinez was the main setter in this one, dishing out 18 assists to go along with her eight digs. Morgan Kelsey did her job on the defensive side, racking up 16 digs.  

- For the Falcons, Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, MA) topped the team in kills with eight on 31 attempts. She also finished with a match high 17 digs. Emily Gelinas (Westfield, MA) handed out 20 assists with six digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Suffolk 37, Fitchburg 23.

-  Assists: Suffolk 36, Fitchburg 20.

-  Digs: Suffolk 60, Fitchburg 56.

- Fitchburg State volleyball will be back on Thursday when they travel to Colby-Sawyer College for another non-conference matchup at 6 pm.
