Volleyball Stumbles to Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, NH: Fitchburg State volleyball fell this evening to Colby-Sawyer in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/14/23

- Score: Colby-Sawyer 3, Fitchburg 1: Sets (25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 14-25)

- Records: Colby-Sawyer (1-8), Fitchburg (4-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After taking the first set in a close battle, 25-23, the Falcons would then drop the following three sets to fall to the Chargers. Leading the way for Colby-Sawyer was Katie Mollberg, who had an impressive 18 kills. Ally Majenski was just behind her with 14 kills of her own. Brooke Patnode made Mollberg and Majeski's days easy after dishing out 35 assists. She also topped the team in digs with 18.

- The Falcons offense was led by Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, MA), who finished with 11 kills and eight digs. Samantha Mirra (Burlington, MA) was close to the team high mark with eight kills along with 11 digs. Fitchburg's offense was facilitated by Emily Gelinas (Westfield, MA), who finished with 27 assists. Defensively for the Falcons, Jessica Greco (Southington, CT) topped all players this evening with a match high 24 digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Colby-Sawyer 47, Fitchburg 31.

-  Assists: Colby-Sawyer 46, Fitchburg 31.

-  Digs: Colby-Sawyer 66, Fitchburg 60.

- Aces: Colby-Sawyer 15, Fitchburg 4.
