Women's Volleyball Earns Four Set Victory Over Buccaneers In MASCAC Action

Sardella and DeAngelis combine for 17 kills for Green and Gold 

Fitchburg, MA: Fitchburg State defeated the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime, 3-1 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

-  With the match knotted at one set apiece, Fitchburg State collected a pair of 25-17 set victories to open conference play with the triumph. The Falcons were paced by sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, MA), who finished with a match best nine kills, one assist, three service aces, six digs and one block assist. Newcomer Abigail DeAngelis (Danvers, MA) was right behind Sardella, collecting eight kills, one assist, one service ace and three digs. Senior Emily Gelinas (Westfield, MA) notched a match best 24 assists, while freshman Jessica Greco (Southington, CT) added a team high 17 digs for the Green and Gold.

- For the Buccaneers, freshman Gemma Geisler (Duxbury, MA) lead the team with seven kills, one assist, four service aces, one dig and one solo block, while classmate Ashleigh Catlett (Prince Frederick, MD) chipped in with six kills, one assist, three service aces and 11 digs. Sophomore Erin Donlan (Durham, CT) collected a match best 24 digs, while junior Audrey Manning (Hanover, MA) chipped in a team leading 19 assists.

-  This evening's contest marked the 22nd meeting between the two teams on the volleyball court with the Falcons 19-3 all-time when taking on the Buccaneers
