Women's Volleyball Swept by Nichols and Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, MA: Fitchburg State women's volleyball was defeated by both Nichole College and Mount Holyoke this afternoon during non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 10/28/23

- Score: Nichols 3, Fitchburg 0 (14-25, 13-25, 8-25)

              Mount Holyoke 3, Fitchburg 0 (11-25, 15-25, 18-25)

- Records: Mount Holyoke (11-13), Nichols (15-8), Fitchburg (8-13)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match One

-  Luna Colozzo and Ryley Plourde led the way for the Bison offense. Colozzo topped the team with ten kills, with one error on 18 attempts for a .500 kill percentage. Plourde was just one shy with nine kills on ten attempts with one error. She finished with an impressive .800 kill percentage. Liz Diorio had a match-high 19 digs, limiting the Falcons offensive production. Ruby St. Onge had a match-high as well with 22 assists.

- The Falcons struggled to get any offense going, finishing the match with 14 kills and a -.013 kill percentage. The two middles for Fitchburg topped the team in kills. Gabrielle Griffiths (Sasebo, Japan) and Sariah Dyer (Raynham, MA) both had four kills each, combining for more than half the offensive production. Emily Gelinas (Westfield, MA) had the team-high in assists with 11, while Jessica Greco (Southington, CT) finished with a high of eight digs.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Nichols 35, Fitchburg 14

-  Assists: Nichols 33, Fitchburg 12

-  Digs: Nichols 45, Fitchburg 25

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match Two

-  The Lyons picked up where Nichols left off, finishing with 33 kills and 13 service aces. Madeline Barton topped all in this one with 13 kills, along with seven digs. Sadie Duffrin dished out 27 assists while hauling in 10 digs. Kyra Staples finished with a match-high 11 digs.

- The Falcons offense finished this one with the same numbers as the last match. They racked up 14 kills with a -.033 kill percentage. Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, MA) led the way in this one with four kills to go with seven digs. Gelinas added another seven assists to her stat line, along with Greco adding a team-high 10 digs.

-  Assists: MHC 31, Fitchburg 11

-  Digs: MHC 55, Fitchburg 44
