
Falcons Race at James Early Invite
WESTFIELD, MA – The Fitchburg State University cross country teams participated in the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday morning.
Williams College won for the women's side with 59 points, as the Eph's had the individual victor of the race and the runner-up (Emily Sundquist and Talia Calnek-Sugin).
The Falcons placed 24th (630) for the women's side, with Nicole Gaffney crossing the line first at 20.07 (61st). Jenae Harrison placed 101st (21.07), while Kelly McCarthy finished at the 21.45 mark (134th). Wrapping up Fitchburg State's top five was Braila Roy (22.11, 161st) and Sadie Zbikowski (22.26, 173rd).
Coming in first place on the men's side was host Westfield State with 55 points. The Owls had a top five finish and three runners in the top ten in the triumph.
In the men's race the Falcons placed 10th place overall out of 37 schools. Standout first-year runner Brian Amaral led the Green & Gold with a 13th place finish (26.37), while coming in 34th was Jake Hastings at 26.56. Matthew Cuomo took 52nd at the 27.30 mark, and Timothy Allenfinished at 28.28 (93rd). Wrapping up the FSU top five was Sean Beverly in 104th place (28:41).
Fitchburg State will be back in action on Friday, September 17 as they travel to Emmanuel for the Saints Invitational at 4:00pm.
