Fitchburg State Hosts Jim Sheehan Memorial

Boudreau and Schaeffer lead Falcons with second place finishes

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 11, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams hosted the annual Jim Sheehan Memorial this afternoon at Coggshall Park. In dreary conditions, the Falcons boasted two, second place finishes as the men collected 37 points, and the women finished with 45.

Fitchburg State senior Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) earned the top spot on the men's side for the second straight week, finishing second overall with a time of 25:31.7, while freshman Pat Lucas (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) collected a solid fourth place finish with a time of 26:05.1 in his first home contest.

Junior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) and freshman Michael Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) were strong for the Falcons, turning in times of 26:45.9 and 27:44.5 respectively, while senior Albert Wong (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) completed the Falcons top five runners with a 28:05.3 showing.

For the women, graduate Rachel Boudreau (Westport, Mass./Westport) collected the Falcons best time of the day, finishing second overall with a time of 22:26.9. Freshman Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) also looked strong in just her second collegiate race, posting a time of 23:33.5 for an eighth place finish.

Senior Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) and sophomore Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) followed Lane into the shoot with times of 23:41.5 (9th) and 23:59.5 (12th), while senior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) rounded out the Falcon top runners with a time of 24:19.5 (14th).

Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it travels to UMass Dartmouth for a race starting at 11 a.m.
