Krikorian nets pair of goals for Falcons in non-conference setback 

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 setback to the Rams of Suffolk University this evening in non-conference action at James A. Satori Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring midway through the first frame as sophomore forward Matthew Krikorian (Groton, Mass.) received a feed from sophomore Prince Boateng (Worcester, Mass.) and connected on his team-leading sixth score of the season for the 1-0 margin.

Suffolk knotted the score in the 32nd minute of action when freshman defender Jason Castro (Everett, Mass.) collected a feed from junior Jordan Casey (East Hampden, Conn.) to notch his first collegiate tally to make score 1-1 going into the intermission.

Following the break, the Rams grabbed the lead at the 54:47 mark as sophomore Christian Restrepo (Everett, Mass.) netted his fifth goal on the year for the 2-1 advantage before the Green and Gold retied the contest (2-2) minutes later on Krikorian's second marker of the contest.

Suffolk regained the lead for good with just under two minutes left in regulation when Restrepo netted his second goal of the match off an assist from newcomer Jack O'Connor (Scituate, Mass.) resulting in the 3-2 final.

Inside the Numbers

This evening's contest marked the third meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 2-1-0 all-time when taking on the Rams.

First meeting between Fitchburg State and Suffolk in men's soccer since October 12, 1985 at Suffolk University in which the Falcons secured a 3-0 victory over the Rams.

In goal, Fitchburg State freshman Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind.) made five saves in the complete game effort, while sophomore Jon Brodeur (North Hampton, Mass.) stopped nine shots for Suffolk in 90 minutes of work.

Fitchburg State held a narrow 18-16 edge in shots, while Suffolk finished with a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Falcons will host the Rams of Framingham State University on Saturday for a MASCAC clash, starting at 12 p.m. The Rams will travel to Saint Joseph's (Me.) University on Sunday for quarterfinal round action of the 2017 GNAC men's soccer tournament with a time to be determined.
