Falcons Shine At DIII New England Championships

Shimiyimana sets school record in the triple jump with mark of 14.18 meters

Springfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team 17th with a total of 16 points at the 2023 DIII New England Championships at the Blake Track, hosted by Springfield College this weekend.

Junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, finishing second overall in the triple jump with a school record mark of 14.18 meters, while freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) placed second overall in the javelin with an All-New England qualifying and PR toss of 61.40 meters as well as registering a 24th place toss of 37.86 meters in the discus.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Shimiyimana, junior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.), classmate Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) and newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) finished 17th overall with a time of 45.04 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Brockton, Mass.), classmate Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.), freshman Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) placed 18th with a time of 8:57.00.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Felix, Bueno Campos, freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) and classmate Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, finishing 20th overall with a time of 3:44.59.
