Visiting Team Information

The Fitchburg State University Sports Medicine Team strives to provide appropriate medical care in a welcoming environment for all participants.  Please refer to the following regarding the services we provide for visiting teams.

Facilities

There are currently four athletic training rooms at Fitchburg State University, one at each event site.  There will be an athletic trainer available at least one hour before, and one half hour after each contest.  Please note at this time appropriate face coverings are required in all of our facilities.

Basketball & Volleyball- Our Sports Medicine Center is located in the Recreation Center on North Street.  It is located at the end of the hallway at the left of the reception desk as you enter the building.

Football, Soccers, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Baseball, Track & Field-. The Sports Medicine Center is located at Elliot Field  This is the first building on the left as you enter the driveway to the fields.  The entrance is through the double red doors on the right side of the builing.  Enter the door on the left once in the foyer.

Ice Hockey- The Sports Medicine Center is a small room within the Falcons' locker room complex at the arena.  The athletic trainer is available in this facility 2 hours prior to game time.

Softball- The Sports Medicine Center is accessible via the far end of the Landry Arena where you will find a Falcon screened logo on the door.  This room may also be accessed through the indoor turf area when unlocked.  The athletic trainer is available in this facility 2 hours before game time.

Staffing

There will be a Certified Athletic Trainer present at every home game/meet. At home football and ice hockey games the team physician will be present and available for consultation.  There will also be an ambulance crew on site for all home football games.  Only our football and ice hockey teams travel with a Certified Athletic Trainer and we will contact your institution if otherwise.  Please contact one of our staff members in advance if your team is travelling without an athletic trainer.

Equipment

Ice, water, ultrasound, whirlpool, moist heat, electrical stimulation, and emergency equipment will be available for all teams.  All visiting teams are asked to be responsible for their own supplies (tape, pre-wrap, etc.).  Our teams will be travelling with a medical kit.  If any equipment is lent out please send it back to us at your earliest convenience and we will do the same.

Treatments

We will provide basic taping and bracing for all traveling student-athletes.  Our staff greatly appreciates any reciprocal coverage.  If reciprocal coverage is not available, please contact one of our staff members.  We will also be accommodating use of modalities providing a note or phone call is made by the Certified Athletic Trainer or Physician prior to the arrival of the team. If athletic training student(s) are traveling with their respected teams a written/typed note must accompany them and be signed by an ATC of the school listing the student-athletes names and treatment requests for all electrical modalities and hot packs due to iability concerns.
